Portocel’s sustainability policy aims to ensure environmental management, with the focus on preventing and controlling environmental quality, so as to create sustainable value for the company and the neighboring communities. The social and environmental policy encourages and promotes the development of the communities surrounding the company’s operations, to generate admired profit, associated with the environmental conservation, social inclusion and better quality of life. The goal is to strengthen the sustainability of the business, in consonance with the mission, vision and principles of Portocel, and maintain the highest standards of integrity, aligned with transparency in the processes and the best corporate governance practices.

Environmental audit

Portocel conducts environmental audits every two years and the results are submitted to environmental authorities, which enables the continuous monitoring of the environmental performance of the company’s management system.

Licenses

Portocel has the license to operate (LO) port activities, issued by the applicable environmental authorities.

Programs and partnerships

The company implements environmental programs to avoid aggression to the environment, related to topics such as:
• Promoting the rational use of natural resources;
• Monitoring the quality of water;
• Management of waste, domestic wastewater and oil residues, air quality and air emissions;
• Evaluation of the risks and impacts on the environment and preservation of the occupational health and safety of the people and communities located in the area of direct influence of the terminal;
• Maintenance of the Environmental Education Program for the communities, surrounding schools, employees and third parties;
• Support to the protection of biodiversity;
• Promotion of local development;
• Establishment of channels for dialogue with communities;
• Respecting and recognizing the value of cultural aspects of the region where the company operates;

Recycling

Portocel manages solid waste generated in the terminal area by implementing tools for adequate separation of materials, which makes the recycling process easier. This is done through practical actions which, with the support of an expert firm situated in the port area, promote an effective recycling program. Thus, the recycling process plays an important role in the sustainable development and protection of the environment.
