Vision

To be recognized as a benchmark in dedicated port logistics.

Mission

To offer port infrastructure services with excellence, seeking client satisfaction and maximum profitability for shareholders, based on the principles of ethics and social responsibility.

Portocel is the only port terminal in Brazil specialized in handling forestry products. It is a benchmark in pulp transportation and is considered one of the world’s most efficient ports. This means operations are faster, more qualified, and have a lower damage rate and operating cost, which explains the record of 37,168 tons of pulp loaded on to a ship in a single day. In 2017, the port reached the historic mark of 100 million tons loaded, another world’s first, which is the result of the company’s high-performance culture and commitment of its teams.

Portocel is the result of a partnership between Fibria (51%) and Cenibra (49%), two of the world’s largest producers of bleached hardwood pulp. It is located in Barra do Riacho, in the city of Aracruz, Espírito Santo, 70 km to the north of Vitória. It has an infrastructure capable of carrying 7.5 million tons annually and transports 60% of the pulp exported by Brazil.

As for strategic location, the terminal is 4.3 km away from Fibria’s Aracruz unit and is connected to Cenibra, in Belo Oriente (Minas Gerais), through the Vitória-Minas Railway (EFVM), with the use of 113 railway cars that leave the plant for the port every day. This logistics system reduces the use of highways and long-haul truck transportation and is therefore much more sustainable. The pulp loaded in Portocel supplies the markets of Asia (45%), Europe (32%) and USA (23%) and is used in the manufacturing of printing and writing paper, sanitary paper and special high-value papers.

More importantly than the emphasis on performance records, Portocel is characterized by its pursuit of excellence in port infrastructure. Its operations are agile and integrated, simplifying processes and improving the flow of information.  The company is committed to its Management Beliefs and operates with a sense of ownership, to offer differentiated services, mitigate impacts of operations, provide a safe work environment for employees and apply the principles of sustainability and respect for people and the environment.

The two companies responsible for Portocel are among the most important players in the sector. Fibria is the world’s leading producer of eucalyptus bleached pulp and accounts for 30% of the global supply of this product. Its annual production capacity is 7.5 million tons. Its plants are located in Aracruz (Espírito Santo), Três Lagoas (Mato Grosso do Sul) and Jacareí (São Paulo), and it has a stake in Veracel, located in the south of Bahia, operated through a partnership with the Swedish-Finnish company Stora Enso. Fibria exports to Europe, Asia, North America and Latin America.

Cenibra – Japanese-Brazilian Pulp, founded in 1973, produces 1.14 million tons of bleached pulp annually in its plant in Belo Oriente and exports 95% of this total, mainly to Europe, Asia and North America. At Portocel, which is 374 km away from its plant, Cenibra has a storage area of 53,000 m2.
